I Like Thursday ~ March Sttches from Life in the Scrapatch

The first week of March has been blustery, rainy and busy.

There has been plenty of fun with fabric and threads stitched in.

I sewed my new month block for my

Temperature Quilt 2024

The pieces for the shamrock block are cut slightly oversized and

trimmed to size to make a 5.5" square

with narrow border strips on top and bottom.

It fits nicely with the other blocks.

I now have four rows done and the fifth begun.

Maestro has bene very helpful with the quality inspection of these blocks.

I have also been working on the next block ...

I Like Thursday ~ Fabric, Friends and Fun from Life in the Scrapatch

My first flag block for the

United Block Exchange 2024 @ Olie & Evie

 is sewn and ready.

The swap closes tonight at midnight, Mountain Time, I think.

Never have I ever starched fabrics,

but I did now to follow the guidelines for this swap.

I washed, dried, then soaked my fabrics in a 50/50% solution

of Best Press and water and hung them to dry again.

Tuesday was warm enough to hang them outside that day.

Then it got very breezy, so I had to finish drying inside.

Then I pressed and started to cut and sew.

I must admit ...

Temperature Quilt 2024 Update from Life in the Scrapatch

I am  happy to say that I am up to date on my

Temperature Quilt  2024 Tree Blocks

It has been below freezing at night here

and in some cases not getting above the freezing point

in the daytime the past week.

Mostly it has been sunny but it has also been very windy

adding a wind chill factor to the cold.

Occasionally we have bits of snow flurries blowing around,

but we have little new snow on the ground

except for piles along the streets and walks that are not melting.

All in all though, it has been a ...

I Like Thursday ~ United In Sewing from Life in the Scrapatch

United.

I saw this quilt and a block exchange on Instagram yesterday.

I have not done a block exchange in many years.

I still have many lovely blocks from many fun block swaps over the years

that are waiting to become finished quilts,

so I had thought I was retired from swapping.

Then I saw this ...

Scrappy Saturday ~ Calling All Scraps from Life in the Scrapatch

Scrappy Quilters, do you do this, too?

When I am sewing, I take odd bits of fabric from my scrap basket

by my machine and and sew them together to make a usable piece.

For the temperature quilt Pine Tree blocks, I get these triangle

scraps I do not like to toss them in the trash.

So I use them as leaders and enders while I sew.

I can cut these down to the 2" by 1.5" pieces

that I need for the trunks of my trees.

Adding some Old Rose to my scrappy tree quilt.

It reached 49 ...

Fabulous Fabric Friday ~ Free Pattern Friday from Life in the Scrapatch

Today I enjoyed these special Tilda Fabrics from my stash:

Windy Day ... have only charm pack and one fat quarter,

Gardenlife ... charm pack ( do I really not have more?),

Cotton Beach ... two small fat quarter bundles, charm pack and two half yards,

Maple Farm ... small fat quarter bundle and three one-yard  prints.

I have never cut into these fabrics before but today I snipped

a few small pieces of these treasures

to add some Maple Farm to my 2024 Temperature Quilt

This little tree combines this lovely pink print with one of the light blues.

It was a gray afternoon ...

Saturday Sewing from Life in the Scrapatch

Catching up with my Temperature Quilt Tree Blocks.

Last weekend and much of the week, I felt under the weather,

which started snowy, got wet and wild and then turned to ice.

After that is was cloudy and gray all week

and the temperatures went up and down.

I was not really ill but very blah

and mostly stayed tucked under the quilts and read

and dreamed of better days.

So here is my week's worth of blocks sewed yesterday and today.

The heart block is a spacer block to mark the beginning of February.

Here is today's ...

2024 Temperature Quilt ~ Row 2 from Life in the Scrapatch

I have started Row Two of my

2024 Temperature Quilt ~ Started Here

Here is the start of my new row under Row One.

It has been quite chilly here of late

and my blocks are getting more colorful

with the purples and grays that I am using for subfreezing temperatures.

I am hoping the warmer colors will be returning soon.

I am very much enjoying making these little tree blocks.

May you have a happy, quilty day!

101 Tilda Bits & My Daily Block from Life in the Scrapatch

Wondering how I manage to use my Tilda Bits Bundle

to sew my Temperature Tree Blocks

... and save my pretty bundle?

I cut new Fat 16ths from my larger stash pieces when I use one.

This way a hold onto bits and pieces of my treasured Tilda ...

... and make my daily Temperature Tree block.

This is the block for January 15th.

The high of the day was 31 degrees F.

Our night time temperature dipped into the teens

and my fingers turn purple in the cold,

so I am using light purple for 10 - 19 degrees

 and dark purple for ...

Temperature Quilt 2024 ~ Progress and Planning from Life in the Scrapatch

The plan for my 2024 Temperature Quilt is coming together!

This is my January 13th tree block.

High ~ 57 degrees F

Low ~ 33 degrees F

The high is 23 degrees higher than our average temperature for this date.

We have had rain and strong winds.

Locally, we have weathered the storm well.

The forecast is for temperatures to dip into the teens within 48 hours.

I believe I have enough of this beautiful Tilda Fabric

from their Chic Escape Collection for the backing of my quilt.

This is called Wild Garden Teal.

I purchased it when the collection was going ...

I Like Thursday ~ Julep & Jubilee from Life in the Scrapatch

The Wordless Wednesday photo yesterday was a top view of this

Tilda Bit by Bit Stash Builder from Serendipity Woods

which is one of my fabric treasures.

I have had this Fat 16ths bundle in my stash for a long time now

and I have had difficulty unrolling and using it.

I have a nice collection of Tilda fabrics in my stash.

I admit to being a bit of a collector.

Jubilee ~ Tilda Fabrics is celebrating 25 years!

with a special new collection to be released soon.

Your know what this means ... many wonderful new free patterns also coming soon ...
